Five things to do in Newton this weekend

“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” — F. Scott Fitzgerald

Autumn arrives this weekend, and our long stretch of warm sunny weather has come to an end. Cool air, clouds and rain are on their way to confirm that.

But we need the rain. And Newton has an abundance of activities and events to keep your spirits high.

Here are five things to do in Newton this weekend.

Friday, Sept. 20

At 8 p.m., the Newton Theatre Company will perform “The Guys,” a play about two people in New York two weeks after the Sept. 11 attacks, processing what happened and dealing with grief. If you can’t make this showing, there are performances on Saturday too.

Saturday, Sept. 21

From 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the city will have its Saturday Farmers Market at Newton North High School.

At 4 p.m., Cappella Clausura will have its first concert of the season at Grace Church (76 Eldridge St.) featuring “music that transports the listener to a world that blurs the line between dreams and reality.” They’ll also be performing this concert Sunday at Emanuel Church.

From 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., the Allen Center will host a concert, “A Hapsburg Hootenanny: Biber, Pachelbel, Schmelzer, and Buonemente” featuring chamber music from 17th Century Austria.

Sunday, Sept. 22

From 3 to 4 p.m., Newton Community Pride will concludes its Fall Village Concert Series with a concert by the Alexander Xhoja Trio. Xhoja is a Berklee College of Music student and recent Newton South High School graduate.
