Join Second Church in Newton for a Contemporary Issues series on the escalating dangers of Christian Nationalism. The series begins Sunday evening, September 29th with a documentary film, followed by a three-week book study (October 10, 17, 24), and a four-week sermon series on politics and religion (October 6, 13, 20, 27).
1. Watch Rob Reiner’s new documentary, God & Country, Sunday night, September 29th, at 6:30 p.m. Free pizza at 6:00 p.m. Large screen. Free popcorn. Diverse local clergy will respond to film, along with time for Q&A, small group discussion, and practical steps to protect religious freedom and democracy.
2. Read Jim Wallis’ new book, The False White Gospel: Rejecting Christian Nationalism, Reclaiming True Faith, and Refounding Democracy (Jim Wallis, St Martin’s Essentials, 2024). Three Thursday evenings: October 10, 17, 24 at 6:30 p.m. Two chapters a week. Guest clergy leaders. Get your book ASAP (Hardcover, Audio book, Kindle).
3. Listen to Rev. Corey’s four-week sermon series on politics and religion, based on the prophet Micah’s call to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God. Four Sunday Mornings at 10:00 a.m. October 6, 13, 20, 27.
